The Davenport Arms is run as an independent Country pub serving freshly prepared locally sourced food, with original ideas from the chefs. It has just been refurbished (Nov 2020) and re-opens on December 2nd.

The Davenport Arms itself dates back to the 18th Century, and was once part of the Capesthorne Estate. As hereditary foresters of the King, the Davenports were the game wardens on the King’s Hunting preserves and had the authorized power to put poachers to death without trial. Hence, the crest of the Davenport coat of arms originally was a serf’s head with a rope around its neck, signifying that the Davenports had the power to hang without appeal to the King.

You’ll find a range of real ales, fine wines and a friendly atmosphere. There’s a Bar area for cosy nights around the log fire and separate informal restaurant if you prefer. There’s a Beer garden, patio and thatched summerhouse in the summer months, a children’s play area & plenty of parking.

Covid-19 update from the pub:

The Davenport Arms will be open from 2nd December
Gosh! This Government is really trying to kill hospitality. Fear not, we will be able to re-open on 2nd December at 12pm!

We are currently allowed to:

Serve alcohol with a substantial meal (i.e. something from our delicious food menu).

Serve tables of up to 6 guests from the same household.
Open every day from 12pm until 11pm.

We’re anticipating demand to be strong (and we have limited tables) so please book early to avoid disappointment. Our full food and drinks menu (including cocktails, mocktails, beers, wines, spirits etc) will be available.

Please note, due to Government restrictions in Tier 2, we are unable to serve drinks within our bar area unless it is accompanied with food.
