Gawsworth Hall

Gawsworth Hall in Macclesfield is one of the most beautiful and popular historic houses in Cheshire. The Hall is home to the famous open-air theatre and covered grandstand. It plays host to performances of plays, concerts, comedians and musicals between June and August.

Gawsworth Hall also displays art, sculptures and historic furniture. Additionally, there are craft fairs and classic car events held in May and on August Bank Holiday weekends.

The venue is also open to wedding bookings where the hall and gardens can be exclusively booked to enjoy a fairy-tale ceremony.

Wrapped in romance, intrigue and great charm, the Cheshire domain of Gawsworth has been held by only five families since Norman times. Today it is the home of Elizabeth Richards, and her sons Rupert and Jonathan.

On a tour of this ancient Tudor manor house you will see fine paintings, furniture, sculpture and stained glass. The grounds are no less impressive, with a rookery, tilting ground and Elizabethan pleasure garden.

It has been said that to see Cheshire, you must see Gawsworth.  There can be no doubt of the important role that this beautiful black and white Hall, built in 1480, has played in Britain’s history over the last five centuries.

Sir Simon Jenkins, former chairman of the National Trust, when reviewing Britain’s finest houses for The Times newspaper said, “The Hall is a star, a superb example of Cheshire black and white architecture.”

The Hall is open to the public between May and September. Visit their website for entry prices and opening times.
