The guide will include an update of listings, featuring 200+ local businesses in the town centre. The guide will inspire more visitors and residents to explore their town centre and the wonderful businesses which gives Macclesfield it’s unique character.
We will continue to feature the colour coded map, which illustrating how our town centre has evolved into districts and find the businesses listed. The guide will include new interactive QR codes which link to further information, useful articles, events and feature pages which will be updated as our town centre continues to evolve throughout 2026.
The new edition of the guide will be available to pick up from MORE shops and public places across the town centre in 2026 . We will also be distributing guide to MORE letterboxes across SK10 & SK11, early 2026!
Why Have We Published The Guide?
Over the last decade (like so many towns across the UK) Macclesfield has faced a storm of challenges. Big chain stores leaving the town centre, the pandemic and growing convenience of online shopping has dramatically reduced town centre footfall.
In the face of diversity, Macclesfield is slowly fighting back! More independent businesses are opening in our town Centre. Treacle Market continues to attract over 20K+ visitors to Macclesfield every last Sunday of the month! Macclesfield Town Council have organised a new calendar of fantastic family events, attracting thousands of families to our town centre.
The new 2026 town centre guide will build on this fantastic positivity! With the continued rising cost of living, the future of many businesses across our town centre still remain in the balance. The new edition of the guide will repeat the ‘Your Town Centre Needs YOU’ message created to engage Maxonians. Our aim is to raise the profile of our wonderful community of independent businesses and encourage everyone to make a few extra shopping trips every month to help it grow and thrive!
The campaign has been created by Visit Macclesfield, an independent website launched by local resident Keith Townley. Celebrating the websites 10th anniversary in 2025/2026, Visit Macclesfield continues to champion and raise the profile of our proud town.
Publishing the Macclesfield Town Centre Guide has only been possible with financial support raised through sponsorship by local businesses. Our 2024/2025 main sponsor was the PJ Livesey Group, who are in the last phase of developing the King’s Gate site on the grounds of the old King’s School. The new development located on the fringe of the town centre has attracted hundreds of new residents and shoppers!
We’re aiming to publish the 2026 Macclesfield Town Centre Guide in November.
