MACC-POW! Returns to Macclesfield This Weekend with World-Class Comic Art Festival
Macclesfield is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors this weekend as the much-loved MACC-POW! Comic Art Festival returns for its 11th year, transforming the town into one of the UK’s most exciting destinations for comic books, illustration and creativity.
Taking place from Thursday 25th to Sunday 28th June, the four-day festival brings together internationally acclaimed artists, writers, cartoonists and independent creators from across the UK and overseas. Whether you’re a lifelong comic collector, an aspiring illustrator or simply looking for a fantastic family day out, MACC-POW! offers something for everyone.
The main festival day takes place on Saturday at Macclesfield Town Hall, where visitors can enjoy FREE ENTRY to three exhibition halls packed with comic artists, publishers, live drawing sessions, workshops and interactive activities. Throughout the weekend there are also events taking place at venues across the town including Cinemac, Macclesfield Library, Room For Comics, The Button Warehouse, Pizza Express and other town centre locations, giving visitors the perfect opportunity to explore Macclesfield while enjoying a truly unique cultural festival.
Among this year’s impressive line-up are internationally recognised creators including Charlie Adlard, Sean Phillips, James Kochalka, Nigel Parkinson from The Beano, Sonia Leong, Roger Langridge, Laura Howell, Gary Northfield, Tor Freeman and many more. Visitors can watch live demonstrations, meet the artists behind some of the world’s best-loved comics, pick up signed artwork and books, and even take part in hands-on workshops designed for all ages.
One of this year’s highlights is the festival’s expanding programme at Cinemac, Macclesfield’s independent cinema, which is hosting a mini comic art film festival including classic comic-inspired films and the world premiere of the OiNK! documentary, celebrating one of Britain’s most influential comic books. Creative workshops continue throughout the weekend at venues including Room For Comics, making this one of the town’s most interactive annual events.
Since launching more than a decade ago, MACC-POW! has become one of Macclesfield’s flagship cultural events, attracting visitors from across the North West while providing a welcome boost for local businesses, cafés, restaurants and retailers. The festival continues to grow thanks to the ongoing support of Macclesfield Town Council together with a fantastic group of local businesses and organisations including Sleep, Eat, Repeat, Cinemac, Estates & Leisure, BEANO, Amtri Veritas, P.R. Jones Jewellers, LOVELIVE, Flour Water Salt, Burn Media, Macclesfield Library, The Button Warehouse, PizzaExpress, Henbury Travel, Waterstones and Room For Comics, all of whom help make this unique community event possible.
