Anson Engine Museum in Poynton is a fascinating hidden gem and one of the country’s leading specialist museums. It is located on the outskirts of Macclesfield, only a 20 minute drive from the town centre.

Situated on the site of the old Anson Colliery, it is the result of Les Cawley and Geoff Challinor’s years of hard work collecting and restoring engines. Engine enthusiasts from all over the world come visit this fascinating award winning collection. It houses a unique collection of over 250 gas and oil engines, many of which are maintained and are in running order.

The museum is often praised by visitors who had no idea it was so big or there was so much to see. It’s recommended you plan your visit for a minimum of two hours or why not bring a picnic and make it a full day out.
