The newly transformed Macclesfield Market Hall has quickly become one of the town’s most exciting destinations, offering a modern mix of food, drink, shopping and community events in the heart of Macclesfield town centre.
Located within the Grosvenor Shopping Centre, the Market Hall has recently undergone a major refurbishment as part of wider efforts to revitalise the town centre. Backed by government funding through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the project has completely reimagined the space, creating a brighter, more welcoming environment for traders and visitors alike. The investment included new trading units, improved lighting, updated flooring, a redesigned layout and a new identity as “Macclesfield Market Hall”. The transformation also introduced striking public artwork by local artists Peachzz and Tom Edwards, helping to create a more contemporary and vibrant destination.
The refurbishment wasn’t simply about improving the appearance of the building. The aim was to create a thriving hub for independent businesses and provide a space that encourages people to spend more time in the town centre. New stalls and flexible trading spaces have attracted a growing mix of food vendors, retailers, craftspeople and service businesses, giving visitors far more reasons to explore than ever before.
One of the biggest attractions of the new Market Hall is its growing range of independent food and drink businesses. Visitors can enjoy everything from artisan coffee and freshly baked treats to international street food and locally produced goods. The communal seating areas make it an ideal place to meet friends, enjoy lunch or simply relax while soaking up the atmosphere.
The Market Hall has also become an important community venue. Regular events, family activities, seasonal celebrations and live entertainment help keep the space busy throughout the year, making it much more than a traditional indoor market. During its official reopening in February 2026, visitors enjoyed live music, family activities and opportunities to meet the independent traders who now call the Market Hall home.
Accessibility was also a key part of the project. The refurbishment included new public facilities, including a Changing Places toilet, helping to make the Market Hall a more inclusive destination for residents and visitors.
Today, Macclesfield Market Hall combines the town’s long market tradition with a modern food hall experience. Whether you’re looking for somewhere to eat, somewhere to shop, or simply somewhere to spend an hour or two while exploring the town centre, it has become one of the standout success stories of Macclesfield’s recent regeneration.
