Adlington Hall

Adlington Hall and Hunting Lodge in Macclesfield, lies in the heart of the Cheshire countryside. Set in glorious gardens and surrounded by the 2000-acre estate it’s one of the most beautiful country homes in England. The Hall reflects both the history of English architecture and the 700-year story of a single family, the Leghs.

The beautiful brown-and-white half-timbered East Wing contrasts with an imposing Georgian south front, complete with pillars and portico. Tucked behind is a sheltered courtyard. And at the heart of the house is the Great Hall, a masterpiece of medieval craftsmanship.

Petrified oak trees support the east wall and Handel is said to have played the historic great organ.

In the gardens, you can discover seventeenth century follies in the Wilderness. Or stroll through the laburnum arch to the old-fashioned rose garden and tackle the challenge of the intriguing English yew maze.
